about

This used to be called the ‘funky song’ until Dan informed the rest of us that it was actually a blues riff. I never did well in music theory! Once we found out it was blues the lyrics came together and so did the song.

Im not a great lead guitarist so I don’t know how I ended up playing lead guitar and singing lead vocals. Most people would put that in the same basket as tapping your head and rubbing your belly at the same time. I never quite got it live either. I usually gave up half way to concentrate on singing. In the studio we spent a whole day on the song and I wasn’t happy with my guitar at all. It just sounded twee and anaemic when it should have sounded like Led Zeppelin. In the end I called my mate Tom from band Sheriff, who is by far the best riff master in Melbourne. He was happy to come in and play over my guitar bits. And he killed it! His amp was so mega that we had him put it 3 rooms away and he still didnt need headphones to hear it! He did so well, we had to remix the rest of the tracks on the EP to try and match his power! I’m pretty sure I still owe him a beer for it.

Im really happy with the vocals on this track too. They took ages to do! Because we had spent all of the first of only two days recording on it, I wore out my voice not realising it sits quite high in my register. I ruined my voice so badly I couldn’t sing properly for like 8 months! I got the take in the end though and that's what matters.
