about

This song was a first time we wrote and recorded it completely in the studio. Between takes when Andy was setting stuff up or waiting for the computer to save something, we would just jam out random bits of music to warm up. Dre had this series of chords that we kept jamming on which became the verse of the song. We would just played a few bars and then go onto what we were supposed to be recording. But everytime we were time wasting or warming up we would come back to this little riff and work on it a little more. By the end of the day we had the verse down pretty well and we thought we could just finish it off. So i wrote a chorus in about a minute and everyone jumped on with it and the song got finished in like 5 minutes flat! The next day we recorded it and our photographer (who was with us the whole time) was shocked and confused. Where had this song come from? We had inadvertently finished writing it at the end of the first day just minutes after she left to go home for dinner and she had missed all the ‘magic’! Sorry Nyssa!

I don’t know if rodeos are rated in stars or not, it just sounded good and I think a 2 star anything has certain qualities you’d expect as standard so the desired imagry works.

When we were mixing it I had a few mates come in to help with backing vocals and I showed them this new track that no one had heard. When we got to the chorus my mate Rich said, “Oh? What happened in the chorus? Are you going to record that bit later?” I had no idea what he was talking about. Then we played it again and he sang the "Oh-Oh! Oh-Oh!" bits he thought was obviously missing in the chorus and both Andy and I looked at each other and set up the mic to record them. Rich was certainly right, those brit pop ohs in the chorus were exactly what it needed!
